Cai Jinzhen
Summary: Cai Jinzhen, male, born August 1974. Director of the Organ Transplantation Department of Qingdao University-affiliated Hospital, Dean of the Institute of Organ Donation and Transplantation, and Director of the Organ Transplantation Center. Director of the Organ Transplantation Center of Fujian Medical University-affiliated Union Hospital. Managed more than 2,500 liver transplant patients, presided over more than 1,100 liver transplant operations, and more than 400 pediatric liver transplants. The Organ Transplantation Center of Qingdao University-affiliated Hospital has 189 beds.
As of 2021, the number of organ transplant operations has ranked among the top in the country for six consecutive years, first in Shandong Province, and has the hardware facilities for thousands of organ transplants per year. The Organ Transplantation Center of the Union Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University was established in July 2020, and Cai Jinzhen is the director of the department. The hospital obtained the qualification for liver and kidney transplantation in August 2022, and the number of liver and kidney transplant operations ranked first in the province during the same period.
In view of the broader background of the Chinese Communist Party's state crime of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, since Qingdao University-affiliated Hospital and Fujian Medical University Union Hospital are allegedly involved in the crime, Cai Jinzhen, the director of the hospital's Organ Transplantation Department, is a major suspect.
Cai Jinzhen, male, born in August 1974 in Yingdu, Nan'an.
Chief surgeon and professor at Organ Transplantation Department of Qingdao-affiliated Hospital, doctoral supervisor, Minjiang Scholar Distinguished Professor, currently the vice president of Qingdao University Medical Group, the dean of the Organ Donation and Transplantation Research Institute of the School of Medicine of Qingdao University, director of the Organ Transplantation Center and Liver Disease Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University, currently assistant to the president of Fujiang Medical University-affiliated Union Hospital and director of the hospital’s Organ Transplantation Center[1]. Cai Jinzhen is the fourth director-level member of the fourth session of the Committee of the Organ Transplantation Branch of the Fujian Medical Association[2].
A student of the 1993 class of Nan'an No. 1 Middle School in Fujian Province, he graduated from Nankai University (graduate student) and later obtained a doctorate degree from Shanghai Medical University. He was a visiting scholar at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). He is good at pediatric liver transplantation, adult liver transplantation, and abdominal multi-organ transplantation such as pancreas and small intestine.
Cai Jinzhen has been engaged in adult liver transplantation for 21 years and pediatric liver transplantation for 8 years. He is good at the diagnosis and treatment of various liver diseases, liver transplantation surgery, and complex hepatobiliary surgery for adults and children. He has managed more than 2,500 liver transplant patients, presided over more than 1,100 liver transplants, and more than 400 pediatric liver transplants. He has presided over the completion of complex and difficult operations such as complex liver transplantation, multi-organ transplantation, pediatric family donor liver transplantation, pediatric single-segment liver transplantation, pediatric super-reduced liver transplantation, family donor pediatric domino-assisted liver transplantation, and pediatric liver-kidney combined transplantation.
As early as 2000, the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University was one of the earliest hospitals in China to obtain national qualifications for liver and kidney transplantation. It is now one of the few hospitals in China that have the qualification to carry out six types of transplantation, including liver, kidney, pancreas, small intestine, heart and lung.
The Organ Transplant Center of Qingdao University Affiliated Hospital currently has a total of 189 beds, with multiple sub-specialties including Children's Organ Transplantation Department, Liver Transplantation Department, Kidney Transplantation Department, Liver Surgery Department, Hepatology Department, Transplant Intensive Care Unit, Transplant Follow-up and Transplant Special Examination. It has become a large-scale comprehensive organ transplant center that is first-class in China and the first in the province, integrating clinical, scientific research and teaching. From the perspective of its bed usage, based on 189 transplants done a year, the turnover rate of beds is 100% (the average bed utilization rate of tertiary hospitals in China is as high as 103%[3]), and viewed from the hospital stay of organ transplantation of 30 days, it has the potential of more than 2300 cases (189×365×100%/30=2300) organ transplants per year. (Calculation method: number of beds times number of days a year times bed turnover rate / average length of hospital stay for transplantation = annual number of transplant completions)
As of 2021, the number of organ transplantation operations in the hospital had been among the top for six consecutive years in China, and ranked first in Shandong Province. As of October 2021, the Organ Transplantation Center of the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University has multiple sub-disciplines such as pediatric organ transplantation, liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, liver surgery, hepatology, transplant intensive care unit, transplant follow-up and transplant special examination, etc., and has become a first-class in China and No.1 in the province, large-scale comprehensive organ transplantation center integrating clinical, scientific research and teaching.[4]
The Organ Transplantation Center of Union Hospital Affiliated to Fujian Medical University was established in July 2020. It is a featured discipline that the hospital focuses on developing and is a long-term designated follow-up center for organ transplant recipients in China. The Organ Transplantation Center routinely performs in situ classic liver transplantation, piggyback liver transplantation, allogeneic kidney transplantation, and can also perform complex liver and kidney transplantation operations such as split liver transplantation, pediatric liver transplantation, secondary liver transplantation, domino liver transplantation, and liver-kidney combined transplantation.
The hospital obtained the qualification for liver and kidney transplantation in August 2022. From October 2022 to June 2023, the department completed a total of 58 transplant operations, including 18 liver transplants, 39 kidney transplants, and 1 liver-kidney combined transplant. Among them, 14 liver transplants and 30 kidney transplants have been completed since 2023. The number of liver transplants and kidney transplants during the same period ranked first in the province[5].
Living donor organ bank and forced organ harvesting
Wang Xin, director of the Liver Transplantation Department at Qingdao University-affiliated Hospital, said: “We currently have several donors available. I may have several O (blood type) and A (blood type) donors right now, but there are no B (blood type) or AB (blood type) donors at the moment.”
Note: The description above about the availability of organs implies that there are detainees for living donor organ banks. This suspicion arises because normally organ donors become available randomly, and it is impossible to have them in reserve. Organ donations from deceased individuals in accidents or patients whose resuscitation attempts have failed are determined at the time of the accident or death, and these organs are then urgently removed. And it is unlikely to have such organs reserved in advance, as the permissible warm ischemia times for transplantation are 3 to 4 minutes for hearts, 5 to 8 minutes for livers, 30 minutes for kidneys, and 24 hours for bones and corneas.[6])
