In 2003, the Renal Transplantation Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University was established. Under the leadership of Feng Guiwen, the number of kidney transplants in this field led the country. The department has 47 open beds and 10 intensive care beds. According to incomplete data, the total number of kidney transplants in 2021 was 538, ranking third in the country. Telephone investigations revealed a large number of kidney transplants and a shortage of beds.
In view of the broader background of the Chinese Communist Party's state crime of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, and Zhengzhou University-affiliated First Hospital’s involvement, Feng Guiwen, the director of the hospital's Renal Transplantation Department, is a major suspect.

Deputy director level member of the Organ Transplantation Branch of Henan Medical Association and the editorial board member of “Organ Transplantation” Journal.
Graduated and received a master's degree in urology from Zhengzhou University in 2002 and a doctoral degree in kidney transplantation from Southern Medical University in 2005.
Worked and studied at the Organ Transplantation Center of Oslo University Hospital in Norway as a visiting scholar in 2011.
He has been engaged in urology, kidney transplantation and blood purification for more than 25 years, and has performed more than 1000 cases of kidney transplantation and more than 30 cases of DCD kidney transplantation for children. He specializes in liver transplantation as well as combined pancreas-kidney transplantation and routine kidney transplantation and clinical kidney transplant HLA matching[1].
The Organ Transplant Center of the hospital is an advantageous key department. The number of liver and kidney transplants in the transplant center ranks among the top hospitals in China, among which the number of pediatric kidney transplant cases ranks the Number 1 among domestic hospitals for four consecutive years. The First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University is also the organ transplant center of Henan Province[2]. In 2017, the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University ranked third in the country in terms of liver transplantation, fourth in kidney transplantation, and children's kidney transplantation ranked first in the country for 4 consecutive years[3].
The department includes specialized outpatient clinic, inpatient department with tissue matching laboratory and hemodialysis center. The number of kidney transplants has been the first in Henan Province for many years. In 2015 it completed 230 cases of kidney transplantation, which ranked the fifth in China.
The department has a team of more than 40 staff members of transplant surgeons, nurses, examiners and organ donation coordinators, including 7 surgeons, 2 professors, 2 associate professors and 2 postgraduate instructors. There are 47 open beds and 10 monitoring beds in the department[4]. In 2003 the Kidney Transplantation Center of the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University was established, becoming one of the first medical institutions that carry out kidney transplants in China since 1978.
The children’s kidney transplantation in the First Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University ranks first in the country for many years in a row. In 2021, the Kidney Transplant Center completed 109 cases of children's kidney transplantation, making it the first children's kidney transplant center that completed more than 100 kidney transplants in a single year[5]. The total number of its kidney transplants reached 538, ranking the third in China.[6]
