Shao Chen
Shao Chen, Vice President of Xiamen Xiang'an Hospital, Professor of Urology, Doctoral Supervisor, and Chief Surgeon. He graduated from the Fourth Military Medical University with a doctorate in clinical urology. He completed his postdoctoral work at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, University of California, Los Angeles. He worked in the Urology Department of the former Xijing Hospital affiliated to the Fourth Military Medical University for many years, and served as deputy director of the department and director of the Urology Specialty Center of the Army.
China's military and police hospitals are the main perpetrators of the genocide of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. Specifically, the hospitals affiliated to the Military Medical Universities are the principal actors of the crime. On September 30, 2014, WOIPFG's telephone investigation of Major General Bai Shuzhong, the director of the Health Division of PLA's General Logistics Department, proved the allegation to be true. [1] Xijing Hospital Affiliated to the Air Force Medical University, where Shao Chen is the director of its Urology Specialty Center of the Army, is one of the suspects that committed the atrocities of forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners.
From the end of 2019 to the beginning of 2020, WOIPFG’s investigators, posing respectively as a family member of a prospective patient and a WOIPFG investigator, conducted three-week telephone investigations of Dr. Li Guowei, a kidney transplant surgeon. The recorded phone conversation further confirmed that point and the practice of forced organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners has been continuing in China to this date. [2] The Urology department of Xijing Hospital is the largest and the most comprehensive one in the Northwestern China. It has a kidney transplant ward and Crossmatch laboratory services. [3] The Urology Department of the Hospital has 80 beds in total. [4]
Xiamen University Xiang'an Hospital has introduced and established a team of organ transplant experts from affiliated hospitals of key universities in China. Shao Chen, the head of the kidney transplant team, is the vice president of the Xiamen Medical Doctors Association and a member of the kidney transplant group of the Organ Transplant Surgeons Branch of the Chinese Medical Doctors Association. In 2020, the hospital ranked first in Fujian Province in the number of liver and kidney transplant surgeries and the number of air medical rescues.[5]
The organ transplantation department covers an area of 2,500 square meters, with 90 open beds, including 6 ICU beds and 6 transplantation intensive care units. It is divided into several sub-specialties such as organ transplantation, hepatobiliary surgery, pancreatic surgery, and vascular surgery.
Currently, it can carry out high-difficulty transplantation procedures such as whole liver transplantation, reduced liver transplantation, living liver transplantation, pediatric liver transplantation, re-liver transplantation, kidney transplantation, pancreas-kidney combined transplantation, and liver-kidney combined transplantation.
On April 6, 2019, Xiamen University Medical Center (Xiamen University Xiang'an Hospital), the only directly affiliated hospital of Xiamen University and jointly built by Xiamen Municipal Government and Xiamen University, officially started operation. In the past five years, it has been the only hospital in southwest Fujian that has both liver and kidney transplantation qualifications. It has completed more than 450 liver and kidney transplants, setting a record of 26 liver and kidney transplants in 30 days.[6] In May 2020, the kidney transplant team led by Vice President Shao Chen performed 8 kidney transplants in more than a week.[7]
In 2018, the Xiang'an Hospital affiliated to Xiamen University, which was under construction, became a pioneer in the development of organ transplantation in Xiamen City and even Fujian Province. The hospital focused on building an organ transplant center and became one of the three human organ procurement organizations (OPO) in Fujian Province at that time. In October 2019, the Xiang'an Hospital affiliated to Xiamen University obtained the qualification to perform liver and kidney transplantation, becoming the only hospital in southwest Fujian with both liver and kidney transplantation qualifications. In 2019, the hospital restarted organ transplantation in Xiamen. By 2022, the number of liver and kidney transplants exceeded 300, and the number of completed transplants ranked first in Fujian Province for three consecutive years. It is the Clinical Medical Center for Organ Transplantation of Xiamen University and the Quality Control Center for Organ Transplantation in Xiamen.[8] As of November 2023, OPO has completed 240 organ procurements and obtained 822 organs. The Organ Transplant Center has completed 193 liver transplants and 212 kidney transplants, including 1 liver-kidney combined transplant, and successfully treated 404 patients with end-stage organ failure. In the past three years, the number of liver and kidney transplants ranked first in Fujian Province.[9]。
