The Liver Transplant Center of the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University is the main unit of the "Liver Transplant Center of the Organ Transplant Research Institute of Sun Yat-sen University" and is also affiliated with the "Guangdong Province Organ Transplant Research Center." According to incomplete data reported by the hospital, as of July 2019, the Liver Transplant Center at the Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University had completed nearly 3,000 liver transplants. In the year 2018, the hospital performed 273 liver transplants, ranking third nationwide. The hospital established the Lingnan Hospital Liver Transplant Base, and in 2020, it performed 218 liver transplants at this base. The Liver Transplant Center has five specialized areas, including liver, pancreas, small intestine, combined organ transplantation, and transplant critical care medicine, with 113 available beds.
A doctor from Guangxi Nationalities Hospital testified that the hospital used organs from Falun Gong practitioners. Phone investigations revealed a high volume of transplants, multiple transplant teams, the third highest number of liver transplants nationwide, the establishment of the Lingnan Hospital Liver Transplant Base, and support for Shenzhen Third Hospital in performing transplants. The investigations also indicated short waiting times and harvesting organs from living donors.
In view of the broader background of the Chinese Communist Party's state crime of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners, since the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University has been involved in the crime, Yang Yang, as he Vice President of the hospital and director of the hospital's Liver Transplant Department, is a major suspect in the case.

Personal Profile: In 2005, Yang Yang studied in the Transplantation Center of The Mount Sinai School of Medicine in the United States. Presided over or participated in more than 3,000 cases of clinical liver transplantation.[1]
The Liver Transplant Center of this hospital is the main unit of the "Liver Transplant Center of Sun Yat-Sen University Organ Transplant Institute" and is also an affiliated unit of the "Guangdong Provincial Organ Transplant Research Center”.[2] It claimed that their liver transplantation technique represents the first-class level of liver transplantation in China, and the total number of liver transplantation cases is at the leading level in China. It is currently one of the fastest-growing liver transplant centers in China with the strongest momentum."[3] The center claims to have become a national-level organ transplantation diagnosis, treatment and research center with outstanding specialties, leading in South China, radiating to Hong Kong, Macao and Southeast Asia, first-class in China and having considerable international influence.[4] The hospital's kidney transplantation also ranks among the top in China and in Guangdong Province.[5]
The Liver Surgery and Transplantation Center of the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University was established in 2003. It is the largest liver transplantation center in South China. It is the main part of the National Clinical Key Discipline (General Surgery) of the Ministry of Education and the Clinical Key Specialty (Organ Transplantation Department) of the Ministry of Health. It is also the qualification training base for liver transplantation surgeons of the National Health Commission of the Communist Party of China. As of July 2019, the Liver Transplantation Center of the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University had completed nearly 3,000 liver transplants of various types, including 273 liver transplants in 2018, ranking third in the country. Among the patients who underwent liver transplantation in the hospital, patients with chronic or acute liver failure accounted for about 60%[6]. A total of more than 3,000 liver transplants of various types have been completed[7]. The hospital has opened the Lingnan Hospital Liver Transplantation Base. Yi Shuhong, director of the Liver Transplantation Center of the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University, said that in 2020, the Lingnan Hospital of the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University performed 218 liver transplants[8].
The Liver Transplantation Center of this hospital has five professional focus areas including liver transplantation, pancreas, small intestine and combined organ transplantation, and transplant intensive care medicine. There are five wards, one transplant radiology interventional diagnosis and treatment group, one transplant ultrasound diagnosis and treatment group, one specialized laboratory and one biological treatment center for organ transplantation, with 113 open beds currently.[9]

In 2008, the Chinese embassy and consulate in Canada released a TV program produced by Hong Kong Satellite TV Chinese Channel, which interviewed some "persons involved" based on the CCP's denial of organ harvesting from living Falun Gong practitioners. In the TV program, Lu Guoping, a doctor at Guangxi Nationalities Hospital, admitted that he was the person interviewed over the phone on May 22, 2006, but denied what he had said. However, Lu Guoping has obvious stuttering accent, and the investigation recording is more than half an hour long, impossible to artificially falsify. Therefore, the video of the CCP’s rebuttal has become excellent evidence for identifying the person involved. The Chinese embassy and consulate released the video, effectively testifying the authenticity of the forced harvesting.

Investigation Summary: Seven or eight kidney transplants were done per week, and they can do more than a dozen kidney transplants. They have dozens of kidney transplants every month, so they don’t have worry about organs. The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University can find this kind of Falun Gong donors.[10]
According to the cover story of Caijing Magazine on September 1, 2009, the Third Hospital Affiliated to Sun Yat-sen University participated in the crime of killing homeless people and stealing their organs.[11]
