WOIPFG’s Investigative Report on the Alleged Organ Harvesting of Living Falun Gong Practitioners at the General Hospital of the Central Theater Command of the People's Liberation Army and Its Staff Members Suspected of Participation

Oct 8, 2023

Hospital: The General Hospital of Central Theater Command of PLA (formerly Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Command of PLA)

Address: 627 Wuluo Road, Wuhan City, Hubei Province

Preface

The General Hospital of the Central Theater Command of PLA is one of the largest hospitals engaged in kidney transplantation in Wuhan. The WOIPFG's telephone investigation revealed that the hospital had conducted a large number of kidney transplants, and the doctors admitted the use of organs from Falun Gong practitioners. The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University also swaps Falun Gong practitioners’ donors with Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region. In view of the background of the CCP’s national crime of live organ harvesting, the hospital is clearly suspected of participating in the crime of organ harvesting from groups of Falun Gong practitioners.

Hospital Overview

The General Hospital of the Central Theater Command of PLA (formerly Wuhan General Hospital of the Guangzhou Military Region) is a large-scale comprehensive military hospital and a third level first class hospital, with 48 departments, 73 majors, and more than 2,000 beds[1].

I. The Department of Urology is the kidney transplant center of Guangzhou Military Region

The Department of Urology of the hospital is now the kidney transplant center of the Guangzhou Military Region, with 126 hospital beds. The official website of the hospital reported in the article "Introduction to Urology Surgery" on July 21, 2013 that the Department of Urology has so far completed more than 1,500 cases of kidney transplantation, 130 cases of liver transplantation, and 11 cases of combined liver-kidney transplantation [2].

II. Strong Transplant Team at the Hospital

There are at least 12 doctors in the Department of Urology of this hospital, entitled Level 3 military technology and awarded general-level benefit [3].

III. Amount of Corneal Transplants

From 1996 to 2004, 11 cases of penetrating keratoplasty were conducted in the hospital for patients with leucoma adhaerens. In comparison, 98 cases (101 eyes) including penetrating keratoplasty, lamellar keratoplasty, and combined lamellar keratoplasty and amniotic membrane transplantation were conducted in the hospital during January 2004 to December 2007 [4].

IV. One of the largest hospitals engaged in kidney transplantation in Wuhan City

In July 2006, Minghui.org reported an insider’s disclosure that the hospital is mainly engaged in kidney transplantation: [5]

1. Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, Hubei Provincial People's Hospital, and Wuhan General Hospital of PLA (former name of this hospital) are the three largest hospitals in Wuhan engaged in organ transplantation, mainly engaged in kidney transplantation. The Chinese Communist Party’s official media reported in 2011 that Tongji Hospital in Wuhan performed thousands of kidney transplants each year [6].

2. The resources of organ donors are strictly confidential, but the superficial procedures for organ transplantation are relatively complete, making people not pay attention to its illegitimacy. The organ donor resources are shared among the three major hospitals. They claimed to the public that organ donors are mostly donated by family members.

3. After the exposition of the CCP’s live organ harvesting of Falun Gong practitioners, the hospital leaders held a meeting with the doctors who were involved in the organ transplantation to convey the so-called " Instructions from Higher Leadership ", saying that "Falun Gong is making trouble abroad again" and asking them to "seal their mouths tightly." Do not allow medical staff to disclose any information about organ transplants, in order to prevent overseas Falun Gong practitioners from investigating and collecting evidence on organ transplants through phone calls.

V. Admitting the use of organs from Falun Gong practitioners, large number of kidney transplants.

1. In 2006, Director Tang, who is in charge of kidney transplants at Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region, said (during one WOIPFG investigation), “If it (i.e. organ) is available from Falun Gong, then we use it.”

Investigator: Is this the Director Tang of kidney transplantation at Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region?

Director Tang: Yes.

Investigator: Is it possible that you have the kidney sources of several prisoners like Falun Gong?

Director Tang: This has nothing to do with Falun Gong, what has it to do with Falun Gong? It doesn’t matter it’s Falun Gong or not!

Investigator: Didn’t you use it in your hospital?

Director Tang: If it (i.e. organ) is available from Falun Gong, then we use it, right? [7]

The Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University also swaps Falun Gong practitioners’ donors with Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region. [8]

Investigator: Is this the Second Affiliated Hospital of Hubei Medical University?

Hospital Staff: Yes.

……,

Investigator : How is the kidney source of Falun Gong prisoners in your hospital?

Hospital Staff: It should be said, it should be okay, maybe you ask the General Hospital ..., the General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region,

Investigator: Wait a second..., Guangzhou Military Region,

Hospital Staff: It’s also called the Wuhan General Hospital. We share (kidney source) with each other.

3. Information from recorded phone calls indicated a high volume of transplants at the hospital.

Nurse at the Nurses Station (+862750772398) of Kidney Transplantation Section 1, Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region: Nowadays, more kidney transplants are done. 10-12 cases are done every month. A lot, lot, definitely a lot! (Investigation time: 2017-11-05) [9]

VI. The Leads from Media

1. Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region conducts five to six cases of kidney transplants each night

According to a report by Minghui.org on August 29, 2006: A friend of reporter mentioned that she was hospitalized at the Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region in late March 2003. She witnessed that there were five to six organ transplants performed at the hospital at one night. A young woman in her 30's was with her husband, who had just undergone surgery. Another patient asked, "How much did you pay for your husband’s kidney transplant?" She responded, "Over 60,000 yuan." She also said that the donor of the kidney was a young person, who was taller than her husband [10].

2. Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region found kidney source in less than a month

According to a report by Minghui.org on January 6, 2007: Jing Mingye, an employee of Hubei Jingchu Seed Industry Co., Ltd., was diagnosed with uremia at the end of October 2006. The treatment effect in Jingzhou was not good, and the doctor said that he needed a kidney transplant. Later, under the advice of others, he was transferred to Wuhan General Hospital of Guangzhou Military Region (also known as Huazhong Hospital, General Hospital of Air Force) in early December. By the end of December, in less than a month, the hospital had asked family members to raise funds and be ready for a kidney transplant. The source of the kidney is still unclear. However, the ability to complete various inspections and tissue matching in such a short period of time indicates that the hospital has a large organ bank. In addition, this hospital has performed a large number of organ transplant operations in an unconventional manner in recent years. [11]
