The Second Military Medical University with affiliated Changzheng Hospital Organ Transplantation Center was combined with the urological kidney transplantation group and liver transplantation for general surgery in 2003 and was approved as the first People's Liberation Army Organ Transplantation Research Institute by the General Logistics Department of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on December 17, 2003. It is the highest-level medical teaching and research group for organ transplantation in the army. Many organ transplantations, including kidney, liver, heart, liver-kidney, and pancreas-kidney, etc. have been performed there. The number of transplants is among the top in China. The organ transplantation research institute made a rapid development in adult liver transplantation, adult kidney transplantation, pediatric liver transplantation, pediatric kidney transplantation, living donor liver transplantation, living donor kidney transplantation, combined liver and kidney transplantation, and combined pancreas and kidney transplantation.[3]
Based on testimonial by Bai Shuzhong, chief logistics and health minister of the PLA, we think this is a key hospital that performs many live organ harvests from Falun Gong practitioners.[4]
