In 2006, he participated in nearly 1,000 kidney transplants and nearly 100 liver transplants and donor organ harvesting. He and Shi Bingyi rank among the leading physicians in surgical experience in China. By 2009, they had completed more than 1,400 kidney transplants, 200 liver transplants, 20 liver-kidney transplants and other multi-organ transplants, including a first-hand assisted laparoscopic kidney harvest from a live donor in China (see webpage copy).
According to a report in 2017, Cai Ming had completed thousands of organ transplants. He once transplanted organs for 14 patients overnight. From removing organs to working on surgeries, he continued for several days and nights. As a result, he created a record number of surgeries performed within 24 hours (see webpage copy).
