(北京军区总医院)

Overview: This is a “Class Three Grade A” hospital[178], which was accredited to conduct kidney and liver transplantation by the National Health and Family Planning Commission of the PRC on August 1, 2013[179].
Kidney transplantation: 367 cases, conducted during January 2000 to June 2009[180];
Liver transplantation: Starting in 1999 by Liver Transplant Center in collaboration with Department of Hepatobiliary Surgery, it is currently performed on a regular basis and 35 cases have been conducted. This Department claims to get organs from “donor” promptly (not only from those in Beijing region but also in other provinces and cities)[181]
Heart transplantation: One case of orthotopic procedure was conducted in September, 2000[182].

18. Nanjing General Hospital of Nanjing Military Command, PLA

Overview: This is a “Class Three Grade A” hospital approved in the most early stage (in 1994)[183], and was accredited to conduct kidney transplantation by the Ministry of Health of the PRC on May 23, 2007[184]
Kidney transplantation: The total number of cases performed by Leishi Li, physician in Kidney Diseases Research Institute, was increased to  1,000 in 2004 from about a dozen each year at the beginning according to People's Daily overseas edition[185]; Li claimed that the transplantations performed by the Institute achieved better long term therapeutic effect than that by hospitals in USA[186]; nearly 100 cases every year are conducted by Kidney Transplant Center set up in the hospital[187];
Small intestine transplantation: 15 cases were conducted from 1994 to 2009, and the completion of these cases was broadly divided into three phases, phase I, 1994-1995 (3 cases); phase II, 2003-2006 (7 cases); phase III, 2007-2009 (5 cases)[188];another 11 cases conducted from 2007 to 2012[189];
Heart transplantation: The first case in the medical scope of PLA and Jiangsu province as well was conducted in 1994[190];
Corneal transplantation: Dozens of cases were conducted every year by Department of Ophthalmology, with simplex corneal transplants, or combined corneal transplantations, etc. performed on a regular basis[191];
Combined transplantations: One case of combined liver- intestine transplantations was conducted on April 24, 2003[192];
Liver transplantation: 8 cases were conducted for extractions and trimmings of abdominal organs from “donors”; 8 small intestinal grafts, 8 liver grafts and 16 kidney grafts procured in all of these cases were used respectively in 5 isolated small intestine transplantation, 8 liver transplantation and 16 kidney transplantation during 2007 to 2009[193].

Overview: This formerly called Jiu San Hospital, is a “Class Three Grade A” one (also called Orient Hospital)[194],and was accredited to conduct liver, kidney transplantation by the Ministry of Health of the PRC on May 23, 2007[195].An Organ Transplant Center established on the basis of Department of Urology was upgraded to Cell and Organ Transplant Intitute of PLA in 2011, where 11 major types of transplant services can be provided, from large organ (kidney, liver, pancreas, etc.) transplantation to islet cell, stem cell and corneal transplantation; from isolated organ transplantation to multi-organ transplantations[196].
Kidney transplantation: The first case of cadaveric kidney transplant was conducted in 1977, and a total of 3,358 cases have been accumulated up to now[197];
Liver transplantation: Being one of the those that conducted such transplantation in the most early stage in China, this hospital, from 1982,  has had accumulated 558 cases up to present[198];
Combined transplantation: 10 cases of combined pancreas-kidney transplantations were conducted from May 2001 to October 2006[199]; the first case in Asia, of combined adult islet cell-kidney transplantation was performed in June 2005, and a total of 15 cases have been accumulated up to present; 31 cases of combined liver-kidney transplantations; 9 cases of combined pancreas-kidney transplantations; the first case of combined liver-pancreas-kidney transplantations in Asia, the first  case in the world of combined kidney-islet cell-stem cell transplantations in 2007; combined kidney-stem cell transplantations were started in 2008, and a total of 252 cases have been accumulated up to present[200];
Heart transplantation: One case was conducted on January 11, 2001[201]; and another 5 cases conducted, during 2002 to 2004[202];
Lung transplantation: One case of double-lung transplant was performed in April 2002[203];
and 2 cases, conducted during 2003 to 2005[204];
Corneal transplantation: Around 80 cases were conducted annually in Department of Ophthalmology, where staff have produced very signifcant economic benefits as stated[205];
Others: A group of physicians participated in performing extraction and separation of pancreas for islet cell transplantation from 45 “donors” up to 2007[206].

Kidney transplantation and others: Approximately 150 cases of cadaveric transplant were conducted annually up to now[209]; 1,203 cases were performed by the General Hospital from December 2000 to March 2009[210]also stating the first case of penile transplantation in the world conducted in September 2005[211];
Liver transplantation: 311 cases, conducted during 2004 to 2012[212];
Heart transplantation: Center of Cardiac Surgery set up in June 2006, and was approved as the Center of Cardiovascular Disease Diagnosis and Treatment of PLA by General Logistics Department in 2009[213]; 28 cases have been conducted within 3 years after a PI, Weida Zhang was recruited to be in charge of Department of Cardiac Surgery in 2006[214];
Corneal transplantation: Such surgical techniques are newly featured in Department of Ophthalmology, with corneal transplantation, ocular surface disease specialty and other sub-specialties available; the first Organ Procurement Organization (OPO) in China was established by the hospital on June 30, 2011, then enhanced the further development of corneal transplanttion in the Department[215].

Overview: This is a “Class Three Grade A” hospital[237], which was accredited to conduct kidney transplantation by the Ministry of Health of the PRC on May 23, 2007[238].
Kidney transplantation: More than 1,700 cases have been conducted since the first case was carried out in August 1978[239];
Liver transplantation: The first case in Shenyang Military Command was conducted in October 2002[240], as well as a total of 9 cases of orthotopic transplantation during the month of October 2002[241]; 13 cases were conducted during October 2002 to October 2005[242]; and 12 cases from January 2008 to March 2009[243];
Heart transplantation: 3 cases, conducted since 2005[244];
Lung transplantation: 2 cases of single lung (right lung) transplantation were conducted during June 2004 to 2006[245];
Corneal transplantation: Stated that the Eye Bank was the largest one in the medical scope of PLA and Northeast China[246]; with quite abundant source of corneas from “donors”[247];
transplant surgeries have been conducted by Department of Ophthalmology for decades while the hospital was the only one in Shenyang region to be able to to provide patients with corneal grafts at any moment, holding lead positon in the transplant field in Northeast China, with over 1,000 cases of all types of corneal transplantation conducted up to present[248].
